Rip it. Rip it.
I have been finishing up the granny square quilt and ripping it apart to put it together.
It will have mitered borders since the design is taking me in that direction.
It always frustrates me a bit that I take my own time with QALs, but I think this will be worth it. Maybe I'll add some curves in the quilting to soften up the squares.
I am also thinking of backing it with some wide backing. There were grand ideas of piecing the back, but that is only giving me a headache. Blech. I just want to be done. Have you seen these Moda dots here? You can't beat 108 inch wide fabric! I would only need a 1 3/4 yards cut of it. I may want this backed in the gray or red. I am leaning towards the red. What do you think?

I think it looks spectacular! I really love the fabrics in the pink block. If you have the time, can you email me a link to the quilt along? Thanks! And, I vote for red, too. I haven't seen the larger quilt backing fabric from Moda. Very convenient!
ReplyDeleteThe border is just beautiful! I've heard about the 108" dots, I think it's such a great idea and will make life soooooo much easier!
ReplyDeleteI vote for red too - but wash it before since even the tiniest bit of bleed will give you a pink background fabric :) I've learned that the hard way! Moda is usually really good, but it's not worth the chance :)
ReplyDeleteIt will look so cool when it's finished! I vote for the grey, but that's because I have a slight obsession with grey polka dots :)
ReplyDeleteI love the border you are putting on this quilt. i made a granny squares quilt too and had a hard time choosing the back since there was so much happening on the front. I ended up going with a solid. I like the moda dots cause the tone on tone is like a solid without being a solid! I think I would use the gray...or maybe red :)
ReplyDeleteLove it! And you're way ahead of me! I just finished my blocks. Yea granny squares! And my vote is gray. I'd be too scared the red would bleed all over the white, but that's just me!
ReplyDeleteIts beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteit looks great i wish mine i am making did as good but i am putting colored saching on mine so my grandkids wont dirty it too soon
ReplyDeleteYour border is absolutely amazing! And my vote is for the gray. And wow....if you can get 108" wide fabric you should go for it!
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be a gorgeous quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm in love with your border - so perfect. I'm working on a piecy border for my granny squares and it is slow going over here.
ReplyDeleteI've wondered about using 108" wide fabric - such a time-saver. You'll have to let us know how it goes for you.
oh it's looking cool! For sure the dots for the back!
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna be worth the extra time. For sure!
ReplyDeleteit's a genius idea... but a total PITA!
ReplyDeleteIf you need any more squares, I'll pop them in the mail! I thought you were done with squares... but if you're not, just tell me!
oh wow! what a great idea! It's going to be absolutely spectacular...keep ripping!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great border, just love it!!
ReplyDeleteI love that quilt, I want one and the border is a perfect frame, keep going, it's gorgeous.
